Chrome 7 Will Get 60 Times Faster, Google Says

Image
Microsoft's hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 9 may be dominating the headlines this week, but Chrome isn't waiting around for the dust to settle. Not only did Google release a slew of patches affecting various vulnerabilities in the current version of the browser on Tuesday, but it also announced that new GPU acceleration advances in the upcoming version 7 are achieving speeds 60 times faster than in version 6. Chrome has traditionally been considered the browser to beat when it comes to speed. "This system picks the best graphics API to use on each OS that Chromium supports: Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS and Linux," Google software engineers James Robinson and Gregg Tavares wrote on the Chromium Blog. "These early numbers show up to 60x speed improvement over the current version of Google Chrome," they added. Final Fantasy XIV's open beta has an announced conclusion

Image
Love it or hate it, Final Fantasy XIV 's open beta has given players a fair idea of what to expect when the game goes live near the end of the month. But all good things must draw to a close (or bad things if you're in the other camp), and so too must the game's beta testing. Today, Square-Enix announced that the open beta will close on September 19th , a mere three days before the launch of the collector's edition with its headstart. Although the beta will be fully closed at 5:00 p.m. PDT on the 19th, the beta tester site will remain open until the following day at 12:00 a.m. PDT. While there's only a bit more than a week left of the testing, the steady pace of patches makes it clear that the game will likely be updating straight through to launch. So if you haven't gotten enough of Final Fantasy XIV testing to sate your interest, positive or negative, now would be the time to get to playing . source; massively.com

Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII Could Get Japanese Release

Image
Final Fantasy XIII is multiplatform throughout the world, except for in Square Enix's home territory of Japan. There, the game's producers and directors went out of their way to assure players that the game would be PS3 only, and it has remained just that thus far. A year after the PS3 version's 12/17/2009 release, the relatively small Japanese Xbox 360 userbase may at long last be getting their hands on the game. Some early leaks indicate that the upcoming issue of Japan's Dengeki PlayStation magazine will be confirming a Japanese release for the 360 version. The magazine mentions English voice overs, a new "easy mode" and a bonus booklet that includes artwork and unseen event scene images. In Japan, Square Enix often releases international versions of its games, continue reading

iPod touch surpasses 42m units sold, 37% of iOS devices

Image
Apple's total iPod touch sales, including all generations, have been estimated to reach 42 million units, accounting for 37.7 percent of iOS devices . The estimate, provided by research firm Asymco, has been derived from the total number of iOS devices compared with iPhone and iPad sales. An April estimate suggested the Touch represented 41 percent of iOS devices. The drop has been attributed to the ongoing impact of iPad sales and the iPhone 4 launch. Although the Touch has not kept up with the sales pace of the iPhone and iPad, the numbers are still good enough to make it the number-one selling iPod in Apple's lineup, according to Steve Jobs. The chief executive also claimed the device "become the number one portable game player in the world… continue reading

SCANDAL’s TEMPTATION BOX goes to Europe

Image
Good news for overseas J-pop fans; pop band SCANDAL, has decided to release their second album “TEMPTATION BOX” in England, Germany, France, and 42 other countries. Back in 2008 the band went to the “Japan Expo” in France and ended up pulling in a crowd of 10,000 people for their big performance. They did their first album release in France with ” BEST★SCANDAL” earlier this year and now they will be bringing out their second album. This is largely due to the flooding of European requests of “please sell the second album too,” “I want to buy the album at the same time it comes out in Japan,” and “I really want the limited edition.” Due to this great public demand, SCANDAL will be releasing “TEMPTATION BOX” in the limited and regular editions. Firefox 3.6 Becomes Number Two Browser as IE6 Declines

Image
The data from the Net Applications for browser market share in August show that Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 continues to lead overall and outpace all competitors in growth. Even better news is that Internet Explorer 6--the archaic and insecure browser that refuses to die--is losing ground. Combining all variations of Internet Explorer 8, the flagship Microsoft browser accounts for 32.44 percent of the worldwide browser market--nearly double the second place browser. Firefox has bumped Internet Explorer 6 to take the number two spot. While Mozilla, and fans of Firefox would love to consider that a victory, the reality is more about IE6 declining than Firefox winning market share. Firefox market share was relatively stagnant, but it managed to scratch its way to the number two position thanks to Internet Explorer 6 falling nearly a percent. Ryan Gavin, Senior Director of Internet Explorer Business and Marketing, continue reading
